Google has updated the quality of its ad algorithms. In short, paid search ads will have the quality of their landing pages assessed. It means – for example – that the keywords within a landing page may be given greater weight if those same keywords are in the ads themselves. Google have been making this move in trials in some of the Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries in Europe and South America since August. There, they found the trials were a success.

Google is set to purchase Zagat survey, the original local reviews provider which has been in print for more than 30 years. This of course comes in the wake of the purge Google Places has to go through after complaints from other publishers such as Yelp and TripAdvisor. Google Places is now uneasily empty, lacking a majority of the content that made it useful. Zagat, on the other hand, is still heavily invested in print publishing physical books. Although its subscription-based business model has been decently successful online, it is now rapidly losing ground to other competitors like yelp in the online space. It seems like what one lacks, the other has.
Google Launches Sitelinks

Earlier this week Google launched an expanded version of their new sitelinks program. If you do not know what a sitelink is, basically, whenever you search for certain terms, instead of getting one or two results for that term like you normally would, you will see what is basically the sitemap for the website.
