By Lee | Published November 7th, 2011

Google Challenege YelpGoogle has updated the quality of its ad algorithms. In short, paid search ads will have the quality of their landing pages assessed. It means – for example – that the keywords within a landing page may be given greater weight if those same keywords are in the ads themselves. Google have been making this move in trials in some of the Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries in Europe and South America since August. There, they found the trials were a success.

By Lee | Published October 26th, 2011

Google +Will social media evolve to a level where it has a greater impact on search engine rankings? Google and the other search giants are – debatably – not giving a great deal of weight to social media in the way that it gives to keywords. But to take Google as the primary example, as it is something of a monolith in terms of web searches: It is likely to place an emphasis on anchor text rather than the quality of a site. This has an unfortunate implication when it comes to SEO technologies.

Google To Challenge Yelp in the Local Listing Marketing

By Lee | Published September 12th, 2011

Google Challenege YelpGoogle is set to purchase Zagat survey, the original local reviews provider which has been in print for more than 30 years. This of course comes in the wake of the purge Google Places has to go through after complaints from other publishers such as Yelp and TripAdvisor.  Google Places is now uneasily empty, lacking a majority of the content that made it useful. Zagat, on the other hand, is still heavily invested in print publishing physical books. Although its subscription-based business model has been decently successful online, it is now rapidly losing ground to other competitors like yelp in the online space. It seems like what one lacks, the other has.

More Google plus News Straight from Google

By Lee | Published August 11th, 2011

GoogleplusEarlier this week, there was more news from Google about their new social network, Google+ (pronounced Google plus). If you have been following the situation, currently, Google allows real people, but not businesses or other websites. The problem with this is that when the social network immediately opened up, many businesses started flocking to the site, and Google did indeed end up banning most of them.

There was also the small problem of just what constitutes as a “real name”. Many people have weird last names and some people have even changed their legal name to commercial products, so it is kind of a fuzzy issue. But neither of these two issues really have a big impact on SEO. The real question is how you make sure that your website is G+ ready.
